GOOD TO BE BACK...

MERCEDES-BENZ are to re-launch their G-Class 4x4 in right-hand- drive a decade after it stopped producing the car for right-hand- drive markets.

The car has been confirmed for the UK market in G350CDi spec which has a 221hp diesel engine and G55 AMG complete with a 500hp supercharged V8 good for 0-100kmh in 5.5 second. A commercial G300 CDi will also be offered. The G-Class is virtually hand built in Austria at a rate of between four and six thousand a year and has been in production since 1979 with major updates taking place at various intervals. Somewhat iconic, it is known for its durability and excellent off-road characteristics. As well as luxurious civilian versions many governments use the G-Class as military vehicles with the Irish Army in possession of sixty. No official word on Irish imports yet however.
