Mercedes-Benz preparing to unleash new V6 and V8 engines

Mercedes-Benz is to bring to market a new range of frugal V6 and V8 petrol engines that will provide more power and torque for motorists, Autocar reports.

The publication notes that both engines will benefit from third-generation direct injection, multi-spark ignition and revised combustion, which combine to reduce fuel consumption by 24 per cent.

Among the changes made to the V8 unit are a smaller capacity block that has been cut by 15 per cent and the inclusion of twin turbochargers.

Furthermore, torque has been increased by 32 per cent and peak power has grown by 12 per cent.

According to the magazine, Mercedes-Benz said: "The driver experiences the same pleasant and effortless performance from the new V8 as that delivered by a mighty, naturally aspirated 7.0-litre engine."

Meanwhile, the new V6, which reduces carbon dioxide emissions and provides a better fuel economy, will feature in the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and CL-Class later this year.

Comfort is strong in the Mercedes-Benz S-Class range thanks to dynamic multi-contour seats, which feature self-adjusting air chambers in the side bolsters to improve lateral support when cornering.

Mercedes Lorry

Actros the best ever Mercedes Truck!

In the year 1996, Mercedes Benz introduced a heavy-duty truck and they called it the Mercedes Benz Actros. It was mainly for construction haulage, heavy-duty distribution haulage and long distance haulage. The Actros Mercedes came with a minimum weight of eighteen tones. In the year 2002, The Actros Mercedes was succeeded by Actros-2. This was launched by Mercedes Benz as well.

The Actros Mercedes was accepted worldwide and received excellent reviews. However, it had its own advantages and disadvantages. The actors Mercedes has a completely synchronized gearbox, which is not subjected too much wear and tear because it is not operated directly by the driver. In certain versions of the Actros Mercedes, a smoother down shift is achieved as the throttle is even blipped by the computer. For all the novice drivers the Actros Mercedes is a blessing in disguise. It is no problem at all if one who is not sure of the proper gear.

However, there are certain factors, which spoil the reputation of the Actros Mercedes. While driving on steep roads or on roads covered with snow it is wise not to trust the computer and go for the manual pre selection option. This is mainly because of the fact the steepness of the road is rarely estimated by the computer. The splitter switch comes of use under these circumstances. Another defect is the Actors Mercedes is a highway tractor and there is absolute trouble when it has to be driven inside a city. When the necessity arises for the vehicle to pull out at a stop light and while overtaking the two-second delay is a complete pain in the neck. It causes unpleasantness.

In the Actros Mercedes, a small lever is present. This is mounted under the right armrest and on the underneath; a small switch is also present. On either sides of the lever, small buttons are present. When the vehicle is at standstill, the left button is pushed and the lever is moved forward at the same time and then released. The vehicle is then at second fast level. The right button is better known as the flush button and it switches the vehicle to neutral.

Mercedes-Benz And Your Safety

The Safety of Mercedes Benz:

Volvo has long been attributed with being the number one automobile manufacturer when it comes to vehicular safety and rightly so. As an inventor of "crumple zones" and "safety cages" to protect passengers, Volvo set the tone for worldwide auto building for the next several generations. Indeed, the auto industry owes much to Volvo's many safety contributions. Not to be lost in all of this is the work that Mercedes-Benz has been doing to improve passenger safety too. Taking the Volvo concept one step further, Mercedes now incorporates several technological advances with their vehicles in order to provide the safest riding experience available. Let's take a look at Mercedes' PRE-SAFE system and how it can protect you and your passengers.

I must admit that the first time I heard about Mercedes' new safety system I had thought that it was something that was still years away from becoming available. How wrong I was! The PRE-SAFE system, as it is called, is a terrific way to enhance passenger safety and one that should be adopted by other automakers. Yes, I am sure that it isn't a cheap system but as it is with so many technological advances the price is bound to drop and the system or something like it will become widely available across the board.

Introduced with select Mercedes models in 2003, the PRE-SAFE system automatically kicks in moments before a collision. All it takes is a panic stop or a skid and the system is set in motion; here is what occupants can expect moments before a crash occurs:

Snug in place. Passenger seat belts automatically tighten to prepare occupants for a crash.

Snug in place, part two. Along with the seat belts, air cushions on the sides of the seats inflate to keep people in position.

Seat movements. Headrests and seats automatically move to predetermined positions that provide optimum protection for occupants.

Close it up. Windows automatically shut to offer the best support for side-curtain air bags and cars equipped with a moon roof will find that it has closed up in the event of a rollover.

Since its introduction, PRE-SAFE has been expanded to additional Mercedes models and the original technology is constantly being tweaked and improved upon.

New technology being developed by Mercedes includes the development of a radar sensor to track vehicles running a red light and slamming into your car. Once this technology has been readied, it will take the PRE-SAFE system one step further and offer occupants one more way to avoid serious injury.

So, is Volvo behind in the development of crash preparation technology? Not a chance. Volvo released its Whiplash Protection Seating System in 2000 that prepares passengers for a rear hit by adjusting the seating position to minimize impact. In addition, the company is working on a radar system that can detect when a driver drifts out of his lane. This feature will also utilize an electronic eye to keep an eye on blind spots not seen through the side mirrors.

Ultimately, a defensive driver is the best driver, but there are times when situations are completely out of your control. Mercedes' PRE-SAFE system is certain to be a big help and is likely to reduce serious injuries and even prevent some deaths. Technology at its best!

History of Mercedes-Benz

Let we know the history of the Mercedes Benz:

We see a lot of cars nowadays with the brand name Mercedes-Benz. This has been very popular since a lot of people say that this manufacturer makes cars for quality and durability.

More than a century ago, a man named Gottlieb Daimler was born. After a decade, Carl Benz followed. Both were born in Germany but they were 60 miles apart. At a very age, both boys were exposed to machines. Their approaches to building cars were quite different that is why it is doubtful that they met few years back when they started having the Mercedes Benz.

During the year 1886, Benz built a motorized tricycle followed by his very first four-wheeler in 1893. In 1886 also, Daimler built a horseless carriage. Two years later he made a business deal with William Steinway to produce his products in the US. For 3 years Steinway produced Mercedes cars and light trucks.

Unfortunately, Daimler died in the year 1990, leaving his company to his chief engineer, Wilhelm Mayback. On the same year, there was a special car produced for Emil Jellinek. He then named the car Mercedes after his 10-year old daughter. The counterpart of the Mercedes was Parsifil by Benz which was created on the year 1903.

Both of them became did well at racing. From the start of World War I, both were converted to production sites for war materials.

After the war in Germany, there was a falling economy. There was little or no fuel for cars. Luxury tax of 15% made the production of automobile very disastrous. Because of this, Benz and Cie sought for a strong partner. They considered DMG but the merge was not successful. The economy went worse and there were only a few cars being registered in the year 1923. In the US, over ½ were Fords, Benz and Cie while DMG only built about 1000. Because of great economic necessity, Benz and DMG decided to sign an "Agreement of Mutual Interest" but they still managed to retain their individual identities. This agreement was valid until the year 2000.

There was then an insignia made for the merge of both companies. It was a three-pointed star with a laurel around it. On top was the word "Mercedes" and "Benz" was at the bottom. The merge became very successful and its production rose to about 7000 automobiles in the year 1927.

During 1930, the largest and most prestigious car was launched. The success of Mercedes-Benz flourished from this year until now.

As you can see, the history of Mercedez-Benz is long and established, rooted in prestige and pride. They are one of the oldest and most respected automakers in the world, and Mercedes manufactures some of the finest and most sought after cars and trucks on the market.

Mercedes Benz - Continuing Developments in Speed and Performance

Oh My Mercedes Benz...

There's a famous name in motoring that's associated not only with style and reliability, but also with high octane performance models, all from within its own diverse range of cars. That name is Mercedes Benz.

Since their conception in 1881, the German manufacturer has built a reputation on producing some of the most technologically advanced and reliable cars on the market. Their newest group of high performance cars take their lead form Formula 1 and their developments with McLaren and AMG (the division of Mercedes most associated with their high performance cars).

Mercedes' most recent rendezvous with consumer sports cars has led to the creation of the SLS AMG, which has just become available for pre-order in Germany. Costing €177,310 ($237,000), the car features a M159 V8 Engine, 571bhp and a 0-60mph time of just 3.8 seconds - resulting in a top speed of over 200 mph. Designed solely in-house by AMG ([and] being the first car to do so), has resulted in a convergence of technologies from their F1 cars; in fact, announced at this year's Geneva Motor show is the news that the SLS AMG will be used as F1's safety car on the track for the 2010 season (replacing the SL63 SMG), due to its impeccable speed and power.

Continuing their long standing tradition of motoring innovation, Mercedes is now experimenting with hybrid/fuel cell cars - such as their F800 research vehicle, which was also announced and displayed at this year's Geneva Motor Show; featuring a 204bhp four-cylinder diesel engine which is combined with a 15kW electric motor and seven speed automatic transmission. Anticipated for launch at the end of 2011, it will be Europe's first ever diesel hybrid, and seemingly an effective effort at combining the benefits of a environmentally friendly car, with the style and qualities that the market has come to expect from Mercedes.

Amidst Mercedes' tradition of luxury super cars, they also have a large range of mass market cars - including their A-Class, B-Class and sedan models - which are more appropriate for everyday use. They have recently announced the launch of their latest "sport utility cruiser" B-Class sedan: [the] BLK. Attempting to be a portmanteau of the A-Class and B-Class ranges, this features much of the same features of Mercedes' previous sedans, albeit in an updated package, specifically targeting BMW's and Audi's audience for the X1 and X3 respectively. The car is rumoured for release at the start of 2011.

It is interesting however that despite the range and performance of models available from a brand like Mercedes, the owners still create demand for a healthy market in add-on Mercedes diesel tuning parts. The range of engine re-chips and "piggy-back" tuning systems for diesel models is a case in point, as customers continue to seek out ways of extracting ever increasing levels of performance from what are in many cases already highly optimised engines.

Information and rumours surrounding potential new Mercedes cars often bring excitement and anarchy, but it also arises a question: how much difference can we see from new models compared to our current cars? Whilst the aesthetics of cars often change drastically (utilising materials such as aluminium and carbon fibre that would've been impossible years before), the need for ever increasing levels of performance is something that remains open to question.

- Do we really need consumer available cars that are able to reach speeds of over 200mph?
- Should we be pushing 0-60mph times to engine's limits, to be even faster?
- Can the simple use of a third party engine tuning equipment allow our current cars to replicate the performance of super cars?

This question divides into two categories of a car's use: recreational or practical. Mercedes' new super cars fall squarely into the former category, while the mass market range seem to blur the lines between the two.

Whether the industry should be focusing on practical and environmental, or mainly recreational uses for the automobile is something that will probably always stimulate impassioned debate. However it remains exciting to see these steps forward in innovation and development from a company as long-standing as Mercedes.

Anna Barrington writes for Diesel Tuning UK, whom are specialists in diesel tuning and performance. They offer diesel tuning chips for a range of manufactures, including Mercedes Diesel Tuning.

About Mercedes Benz

Here's a brief statement about the Mercedes Benz:

Mercedes-Benz is a German manufacturer of luxury automobiles, buses, coaches, and trucks. It is currently a division of the parent company, Daimler AG (formerly DaimlerChrysler AG), after previously being owned by Daimler-Benz. Mercedes-Benz has its origins in Karl Benz's creation of the first petrol-powered car, the Benz Patent Motorwagen, patented in January 1886, and by Gottlieb Daimler and engineer Wilhelm Maybach's conversion of a stagecoach by the addition of a petrol engine later that year. The Mercedes automobile was first marketed in 1901 by Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft. The first Mercedes-Benz brand name vehicles were produced in 1926, following the merger of Karl Benz's and Gottlieb Daimler's companies into the Daimler-Benz company. Mercedes-Benz has introduced many technological and safety innovations that have become common in other vehicles several years later.
